LSU Baseball fans have waited five years to return to Omaha to cheer on their beloved Tigers. Early word out of Omaha is leaning of a complete LSU takeover of the town. LSU fans are in every bar, on every street corner, and have packed the stands in sessions LSU is not playing. Everywhere you turn, purple and gold flood through with a vengeance piercing a core memory for those to cherish.
On Saturday night, the Tigers took care of business against the Tennessee Volunteers, who were no match for the overpowering LSU Baseball Tigers. Paul Skenes did his thing on Saturday night, striking out twelve Tennessee batters while holding the LSU lead. LSU jumped on Tennessee early on Saturday night with a 5-0 advantage through seven complete innings. Tennessee would cut into the LSU lead in the top half of the 8th with a three-run inning before LSU capped it off with a 6-3 win over the Volunteers.

With the 6-3 win over Tennessee, LSU advanced to play the number one seed overall, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In what many consider the game of the year, LSU and Wake Forest will meet on Monday evening, with the winner advancing to the College World Series Semi-finals. Whoever finds a way to win tonight will be one win away from competing for a National Championship starting on Saturday.
Wake Forest is a baseball program that has been dominating all season long. The Demon Deacons command the mound while relying upon an offensive unit as explosive as they come in baseball. Without Paul Skenes on the mound for LSU on Monday night, Wake Forest has a shot at striking early and jumping out on LSU.
However, LSU is on a roll that not many can slow down. LSU has flipped a switch since the start of the 2023 NCAA Tournament that I’m not sure can be turned off. LSU is playing like the best team in college baseball with a 1-9 lineup that causes harm to opposing pitchers across baseball. If one guy is having an off night, eight others can hit the long ball or provide timely base hits to keep the lineup moving for the Tigers. Not to mention, LSU has an entire city filled with Cajuns from the Bayou hungry for another National Championship.

On Saturday night, Charles Schwab Field sounded like Alex Box Stadium, giving the Tigers an unbelievable home-field advantage in the 2023 College World Series. Similar to what happened in 2021 and 2022, when Mississippi State and Ole Miss fans took over Omaha, leading their respective programs to National Championships. Over the years, we have seen National Championships won by programs that take over Omaha. Like in any sport, you can have all the talent in the world, but what usually carries teams across the finish line is the energy brought by the fans.
LSU and Wake Forest will get underway on Monday night, with a first pitch slated for 6:00 and a national television audience on ESPN.
