Fall camp is about a week or so away for Head Coach Zach Arnett, and his Mississippi State Bulldogs are ready to partake in the underdog role as the Bulldogs were picked dead last in the Southeastern Conference Western division. Despite returning seven on the offensive side of the ball and four on the defensive side, the fear of the unknown has people worried about the production of Mississippi State in the upcoming season. Yet, Coach Arnett and his Bulldogs have taken the role of the underdogs to shock the world this season as they turn the page of Mississippi State Football into the next chapter.

Moving forward for a bigger future is what Coach Arnett has in mind as he continues to build Mississippi State into the program of the future. For Coach Arnett, building a program into the future starts with the 2023 season. Underdogs on the outside, but Coach Arnett has a bowl win under his belt and a hot recruiting trail to wet the whistle of the Mississippi State faithful, who has a taste for championships and celebrations to last a lifetime.
Last week at the 2023 SEC Football Media Day, the chatter shifted to Coach Arnett and the confidence his guys had in talking about their program ahead of the season. Rumor out of Starkville is one of excitement and unmatched energy, with the group of guys giving optimism to those surrounding the program.
Starting with the mentality of the Bulldogs, they’re fully aware of being picked 7th in the SEC West, but the focus is getting better and maintaining success from last season. Last season, Mississippi State won the Egg Bowl and defeated Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Auburn; combined with an undefeated non-conference record, the Bulldogs have a lot of positives to build off of. Half the battle in football is winning the mental game, starting with believing in the long-term goal. Mentally, Coach Arnett has his guys believing they have the potential to play and beat anybody in the Southeastern Conference. Mix that mindset with the talent Mississippi State has back. The perfect storm situation could arrive in Starkville, Mississippi, for a season with win totals nearing nine or ten.
Mississippi State will open its season on September 2nd at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi, as they host Southeastern Louisiana.
