Scottie Scheffler, talks Texas to the Southeastern Conference and the Longhorn family ahead of the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship

Scottie Scheffler made his rounds with the PGA Media on Wednesday morning ahead of the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship that will get underway on Thursday. Scottie Scheffler, a lifelong Texas fan and a Longhorns graduate, spoke twice about the Texas family going in-depth once about the impact that the Southeastern Conference will have on the brand of Texas. Scottie, the number two-ranked golfer in the world, has a lot to play for this week; talking about his beloved Longhorns added a break from the media drilling about course conditions and variables of the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Scottie Scheffler first mentioned the Texas Longhorns family when a reporter asked about Pierceson Coody looking up to Scheffler on the PGA Tour.

Scottie Scheffler responded by saying:

” Well, first, about Pierceson’s game, I remember him being really good, him and his brother. They’re both talented players. It’s good to see them having success. I think Parker also made the Playoffs. I love seeing the Longhorns have success out here on TOUR.

It’s nice to have people look up to you. I don’t really know what I would be doing to receive something like that, but I will try and keep doing my best, and hopefully won’t make too many mistakes.

I feel like the Texas Longhorn family out here on TOUR is pretty tight, and Jordan was one of those guys that I looked up to when I was growing up, and he was always a little bit ahead of me in terms of age and kind of golf development, and when I got out here on TOUR, he was a really good guy for me to be able to bounce stuff off of, and it’s been kind of the same thing, just open-door policy with those guys, both the Coodys and Cole. Whenever they have questions, I’m happy to answer them.
It’s just something that’s important. When you start here on TOUR, there is so much to learn. A lot of it you can learn by experience, and in a lot of it you’ve just got to ask questions.

There’s just random stuff about where you want to stay, where you want to eat. There are so many things that go into how you want to plan your weeks out here on TOUR, and when I first started, I had no idea what I was doing. So it was really good to have some older guys that I was able to bounce stuff off of, and hopefully, I can be a little bit of a sounding board for the younger guys coming up, as well.”

A few golf questions were asked in between, but then Mitch Davis from TheMitchDavisShow.com asked Scottie about the Longhorns joining the Southeastern Conference and the impact it will have on a sport like Golf.

Scheffler responded with dignity and excitement about the future of Texas athletics.

” Yeah, I feel like at the University of Texas, I kind of talked a little bit about it earlier, was it’s a family out here. When I first came out on TOUR, there were a lot of guys that I knew from either when I was being recruited or from when I was on the team.
I have great relationships with all the guys that have graduated from the University of Texas.

Yeah, it should be a fun experience for the guys. It’ll be fun for football. It’ll be fun for basketball. It’s exciting for me as a fan to be able to have that, and then any competition is good competition in golf, and Texas and Oklahoma have both been great golf schools, I think, for a good bit of time. We’ll be joining a lot of other great programs there in the SEC.”

Like many, the Texas Longhorns mean so much to Scottie Scheffler and his family, and the future with the Southeastern Conference will only strengthen that bond between him and the Longhorns. Scottie Scheffler gets it; even on the biggest stage, the love you for your program means more. Adding Texas and Oklahoma to the Southeastern Conference will cause a gigantic leap in development on the world’s biggest stages.

Scottie Scheffler will get his run at the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship, underway on Thursday morning at 9:26 in the featured grouping with John Rahm and Rory McIllroy.
