Week four of the 2023 Mississippi State Football season will see the Bulldogs traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, to take on the Gamecocks of South Carolina under the lights at Williams Brice Stadium. After last week’s debacle against LSU, Mississippi State will look to turn the page to focus on the present situation the Bulldogs have in front of them. Despite the ugly loss to LSU on Saturday, the Bulldogs have the entire season in front of them, and the possibility for a remarkable season is there for taking. Mississippi State and South Carolina last met in 2016 at Davis Wade Stadium, where the Bulldogs were the victors 27-14 over the Gamecocks. South Carolina holds the overall series record over Mississippi State with an advantage of 9 wins to seven.
Mississippi State comes into the game with South Carolina mending the wounds from a disaster last weekend at home.

However, on Monday, Will Rogers and a host of senior leaders for Mississippi State held a player-only meeting to motivate the team to play to the Bulldog standard. Will Rogers took the blame on Saturday for the poor performance of the offensive unit and promised the Mississippi State faithful that the game against South Carolina on Saturday night would be different.
On the field, Mississippi State will need a complete offensive overhaul on Saturday night against the Gamecocks. Three weeks in, Mississippi State has seen the offense struggle to finish drives with points. Mississippi State has had several chances this season to score points. Also, Offensive Coordinator Kevin Barbay has got to figure out how to get Mike Wright into the game to give the Bulldogs a spark against a pesky Gamecocks defensive unit. Also, the Mississippi State offense needs to keep the Bulldogs defensive unit off the field tonight to keep them fresh.
On the defensive side of the ball, Mississippi State has to force the pressure on the South Carolina quarterback, Spencer Rattler. Rattler struggles against pressure, usually forcing turnovers and knocking the Gamecocks out of contention for a win.
Saturday night will be one of those games where the team that bends but doesn’t break will come out of Williams Brice Stadium with a win. Saturday night will be an all-out rock fight for either team.
