STATEMENT MADE: Taking a look inside the sustained success of Georgia Football under Kirby Smart

Contrary to popular narrative, the Georgia Bulldogs are without question the best team in college football for a third straight season. Under the lights at Sanford Stadium is a special place to be if you’re the hometown Georgia Bulldogs on a Southeastern Conference Saturday night. Saturday night was no different as the Bulldogs welcomed the Kentucky Wildcats for a highly anticipated SEC East battle. Coming into the game, many around the country believed Georgia would struggle against the Wildcats on Saturday; Head Coach Kirby Smart and his program took the challenge to heart and made a statement to the rest of the country that until proven otherwise, the Bulldogs are the kings of college football.

Georgia dominated Kentucky in all aspects of the word on Saturday night in Athens. Down to the composure kept by the Bulldogs, when Kentucky would throw a punch, the Bulldogs would turn the other cheek, allowing the beatdown on the field to do the talking for the program. For Georgia, sustained success is everything as a program; Saturday night was just another stepping stone for the program to issue a stern warning to the rest of the college football that until somebody can match Georgia on all fronts, the Bulldogs will remain kings.

For the novice college football fan, Georgia is your average good college football team that competes at a higher level than most.

However, for those of us who study the film and the behavioral patterns of the program, you begin to notice what separates Head Coach Kirby Smart and his Georgia Bulldogs from the rest of the pack. No detail is too small to manage for Kirby and his program. Kirby took what he learned under Coach Nick Saban at various stops, took it back to Georgia, applied it with his fine-tuning, and turned Georgia into the program of the future.

We saw evidence of that on Saturday night as the Georgia Bulldogs scored 51 points on a Kentucky team that has the potential to finish in the top half of the Southeastern Conference. Georgia dominated Kentucky from the opening kick to the final whistle, leaving no doubt in the minds of college football fans.

When you go back and study the film from Saturday night, you will see things that separate them from the pack of programs across college football.

First, on the defensive side of the ball, you will notice many complex things that Georgia does to confuse the other teams’ offense. There is a lot of shifting, gang tackling, and wreaking havoc on offensive lines with no business being on the same field as the men of Georgia. The complex nature of the Junkyard Dog defense that Kirby Smart has his hand on is challenging to handle when you have an inexperienced offensive line and lack the playmakers to create scoring opportunities to keep you in the game.

Second, in terms of the 2023 Georgia Bulldogs offense, tight end Brock Browers is the best player in college football. Brock Browers is a man among boys. Despite being a tight end, Brock Browers is the difference maker for Georgia, deserving of Heisman conversation at the very least. Not to mention, quarterback Carson Beck is coming into his own for the Bulldogs. Beck finished the win over Kentucky with 398 yards through the air, combined with four touchdown passes.

Overall, Saturday night was the statement Head Coach Kirby Smart and his staff were looking to get out of their Georgia Bulldogs this season. Georgia will continue the mean machine in red and black to Nashville on Saturday, where they will play the Commodores of Vanderbilt in a final tuneup before the bye week on the 21st of October.
