We’re less than 24 hours away from Mississippi State, heading to the Plains of Auburn to take on Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers in another massive matchup for Coach Arnett and the Bulldogs. Following the 7-3 win over the Razorbacks on Saturday, Coach Arnett and his Mississippi State are essentially one Southeastern Conference win away from heading to the postseason for the 14 straight season. Given Mississippi State will need to complete the season sweep of non-conference foes in a matchup with a struggling Southern Miss Football team on November 18th, a win over Auburn would all but guarantee that the Bulldogs would be representing the Southeastern Conference in one of the many postseason appearances for the conference.
Mississippi State comes into the Auburn game on Saturday riding high after putting together a complete defensive win over the Razorbacks last Saturday. Mississippi State held the Arkansas high-octane offense unit to three points and two hundred yards of total production. Despite the win, Mississippi State approaches the Auburn game-seeking offensive tempo that has lacked all season.

Last week, Mississippi State scored seven points behind an impressive performance from the transfer quarterback, Mike Wright. Will Rogers was on the sideline with a shoulder injury, leaving the keys to Wright to be QB1 against the Razorbacks. Against Auburn, Will Rogers will likely get the start, with Wright coming in at times to give the Bulldogs’ offense a needed spark against a struggling Auburn defense.
For Auburn, like Mississippi State, the Tigers come into the game on Saturday struggling on the offensive side of the ball. Coach Hugh Freeze took over a program lacking the athletes to compete at a high level in the Southeastern Conference. The truth is, Auburn isn’t that good on offense; like Mississippi State, the Tigers have two different quarterbacks that bring two different styles to the table.
Saturday’s game will be won on defense, a front where the visiting Mississippi State Bulldogs have the advantage. If Mississippi State plays defense as they did against Arkansas last week, the Bulldogs will be in the perfect position to beat Auburn on Saturday. Although that might be the case for Mississippi State, you can believe that a win over Auburn on Saturday at Jordan Hare Stadium won’t come easy for the Bulldogs. Mississippi State can’t afford to let Auburn gash them on third down, and the Bulldogs will need to find a way to force a turnover or two to secure a road win on Saturday.
Mississippi State and Auburn will get underway at Jordan Hare Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a 2:30 kick and a national television audience on the SEC Network.
