Mississippi State heads to Texas A&M to take on the Aggies in a must-win situation

With three weeks remaining in the 2023 Mississippi State Football season, the Bulldogs head to the Lonestar State of Texas to take on the Texas A&M Fighting Aggies in a must-win situation. Mississippi State has four wins, needing six to keep its postseason streak alive; the Bulldogs will need to win two out of the next three to keep the bowl streak alive and well. A win over the Aggies won’t come easy for the Bulldogs on Saturday night at Kyle Field, not entirely out of the realm of possibilities as the Aggies face an uphill climb to reach six wins of their own.

Like Mississippi State, Texas A&M has had an incredibly disappointing season, with chatter off the field of buying out the contract of Head Coach Jimbo Fisher. Texas A&M, with all the talent in the world, has failed to produce a product on the field that the 12th man can be proud of. Texas A&M has Mississippi State, ACU, and LSU remaining on the 2023 schedule. Odds, the Aggies will beat ACU and lose to LSU, leaving the Mississippi State game on Saturday as a must-win for the Aggies to finish the regular season with a winning record. The difference between a six-win and a seven-win season is a win over Mississippi State on Saturday night at Kyle Field.

For Mississippi State, Saturday night has the potential to be one of two things as they try to close out the 2023 season on a positive note. Mississippi State has its backs against the wall, with two choices as the option for Coach Arnett and his staff.

Against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, the Mississippi State offense struggled to get anything going, with Will Rogers and Woody Marks out for another week with lingering injuries. According to reports, Will Rogers will likely be back in the saddle and ready to lead Mississippi State on Saturday night against the Aggies. Needing a spark after scoring 23 points in the last three games, the Mississippi State Bulldogs need a spark from the past, and Will Rogers could provide the Bulldogs with the momentum to overcome the obstacles of playing on the road at Kyle Field.

On defense, once again, the Bulldogs have to figure out who they are as a unit and stick to the identity of that unit. On the defensive side of the ball, Mississippi State will often start strong before breaking under the pressure of little rest with the lack of offensive production this season. For success in College Station on Saturday night, the Mississippi State defense will have to adapt to bend but never break.

Mississippi State and Texas A&M will play under the light at Kyle Field on Saturday night, with a kick-off slated for 6:30 on ESPN2.
