The right man for the job: Inside how Coach Riser plans to take Memphis Baseball to new horizons

Coach Matt Riser took over the Memphis Baseball program in late June. Coach Riser immediately hit the ground running, shaping Memphis Baseball into a program that will make the city of Memphis proud to be a fan of the Memphis Tigers Baseball program. Coach Riser took the Memphis job because he felt it was the right time to come to Memphis under the leadership of Athletics Director Laird Veatch and the investment he has put forth in all sports, including baseball.

In an interview with The Mitch Davis Show Podcast, Coach Riser mentioned point blank that five years ago, he would not have taken the job as Head Coach of the Memphis Baseball program due to the lack of investments made by the university for the sport. However, that was five years ago; Memphis Baseball is in the best position it has ever been in as they approach the first pitch against Jacksonville State in a little over a week.

Talking to Coach Riser, one can feel excitement and optimism for where the program is and where Coach Riser and his staff can take Memphis Baseball. With the investments made in Memphis Baseball, reaching the NCAA Tournament will be the standard; taking that next step in taking Memphis to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, will keep the program producing a product that sustains success for generations to come.

For Memphis Baseball, keeping the best hometown talent in town to play for the Tigers is at the forefront for Coach Riser and his staff. From a national stand, Coach Riser and his staff plan to use the powerful Memphis Brand to recruit guys from across the country while leaning on the local guys to pour into those from outside of the 901, further stressing the importance of putting on for the city of Memphis, doing their part to grow the University of Memphis brand.

If anybody can take Memphis Baseball to the level where championships are the standard, it’s Coach Matt Riser. Coach finished his time at Southeastern Louisiana as the all-time winningest baseball coach in school history with a crazy record of 320-224. Given ample time, Coach Riser will take Memphis Baseball to a level where folks will talk of Championships when referring to Memphis.

Coach Riser and the Memphis Tigers will open their season next Friday for a three-game series at Jacksonville State before returning to Memphis for midweek games against Little Rock and Central Arkansas.
