Going for the series: Mississippi State takes on Florida at noon for the series

Down in the swamps of Florida, Mississippi State Baseball is going for a massive series win over the Florida Gators after embarrassing Florida on Saturday night. If it had not been for a coaching blunder in the bottom half of the 9th inning on Friday night, Mississippi State would be going for the sweep of Florida on Sunday. Mississippi State has been the better baseball team all weekend, getting the explosive offensive firepower and good enough pitching to get the job done over the Gators.

Friday night happened; Mississippi State held on to a 6-4 lead in the bottom half of the 9th inning before an onslaught of Florida timely hitting gave the Gators a 7-6 win over the Bulldogs.

However, as a new day rolled around on Saturday, Mississippi State laid wait for a barrage of explosive offensive firepower. Exploding for 12 runs, Mississippi State left the scoreboard in Gainesville in disarray with several guys homering, knocking in RBIs, and producing an impressive display of the offense that Mississippi State has shown they can do. Dakota Jordan, Connor Hujsak, and David Mershon all homered on Saturday, with Dakota Jordan and Connor Husjak having two of their own.

On the mound, Mississippi State had the chance to save a few arms, with Jurrangelo Cijntje going deep in the Bulldogs’ game. Cijntje pitched seven complete innings with eight strikeouts, two walks, five hits, and two runs. Tyson Hardin came in the bottom half of the 8th inning to provide Mississippi State with the final six outs to secure the 12-2 win over the Florida Gators. Hardin struck out three with one hit and no runs.

A win over Florida on Sunday would be a massive confidence booster for the Bulldogs ahead of the home series with Georgia starting next Friday night. A win would also boost the Bulldogs’ NCAA Tournament resume as they navigate the waters to return to the postseason after winning the National Championship in 2021.

The first pitch for the Gators and Bulldogs will be at noon on Easter Sunday on the SEC Network Plus.
