LSU looks to play spoiler in the Chapel Hill Regional

As we enter June, it’s that exciting time of year when LSU Baseball sets off on another thrilling journey toward the College World Series. This annual tradition, beloved by all Tiger fans, signals the start of a scintillating summer with LSU Baseball in the postseason. Let’s not forget, in the previous season, LSU emerged as the unrivaled top team in college baseball, securing a National Championship and reaffirming its status as the nation’s premier baseball program.

Although the Tigers will begin their journey away from Alex Box Stadium, the mission is the same: return a National Championship to the boot for the 8th time in program history.

LSU’s postseason campaign kicked off last week in Hoover at the SEC Tournament. The Tigers, seemingly overnight, transformed into one of the most formidable teams in baseball, reaching the SEC Tournament Championship Game against Tennessee. Prior to this magical run, LSU was still finding its footing, but a series sweep of the Ole Miss Rebels sparked a turning point for the Tigers, igniting a fire that had been missing all season.

In recent years, we’ve witnessed this kind of magic with the 2022 National Champions, the Ole Miss Rebels. This LSU team, on paper, surpasses the Ole Miss team that clinched the National Championship in 2022, boasting more leaders with National Championship experience. The likes of Tommy White, Hayden Travinski, Jared Jones, Thatcher Hurd, and Nate Ackenhausen, seasoned upperclassmen, hold the key to guiding LSU back to the top. Coupled with the talent of Jake Brown, Michael Braswell, and Steven Milam, the Tigers possess enough offensive firepower to never feel out of any game, particularly in the postseason. Milam, the SEC Tournament hero, sealed the Tigers’ spot in the Championship game with a two-run home run over the Gamecocks on Saturday.

All of that, combined with Luke Holman on the mound as LSU’s ace, gave the Tigers the same advantage they had with Paul Skenes last season. Holman is projected as an early-round draft pick in the 2024 MLB Draft and came to LSU through a transfer portal from Alabama. There, he improved the quality of his pitches, giving the Tigers an unreal ace to rely on in the postseason.

Heading into the NCAA Tournament, no team in college baseball wanted to draw the LSU Tigers; North Carolina drew the short straw. Sure, North Carolina is a solid ACC team, but Jay Johnson has his Tigers ready for the challenge to prove they belong in the conversation to compete for a National Championship in a few weeks.

LSU will start its postseason run on Friday morning in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Tigers will play Wofford in the first game of a four-team double-elimination event.
