We’ve reached the dog days of summer when the talking season begins to wet the whistle of college football fans across the southeast. On Monday, the attention will shift to Lane Kiffin and his Ole Miss Rebels as they take center stage on day one of the 2024 SEC Media Days in Dallas. Coach Kiffin will take the podium, giving the program’s state while not giving too much rat poison to rivals to use against the Rebels as they fight for a spot in the 2024 expanded College Football Playoff. Since winning the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the conversation all off-season has been about competing for a National Championship, with the bare minimum of reaching the College Football Playoff.
There’s been a lot of conversation in recent days about Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin not being capable of taking that next step. On Monday, Coach Kiffin will take the podium and have the chance to address the circulating murmurs that his program isn’t ready for that next stage. However, with his talent across the board, additions in the transfer portal, and the returning players, Ole Miss has enough talent and depth at many vital positions to compete for the Southeastern Conference crown and a National Championship.

The buzz around Ole Miss is largely due to their explosive offensive unit, which has emerged as one of the best in college football. Jaxson Dart’s career progression positions him for another breakout season this fall. Despite the loss of Quinshon Judkins to the transfer portal, Ole Miss has a formidable trio of running backs in Ulysses Bentley IV, Henry Parish Jr, and Jacory Croskey-Merrit. The addition of Logan Diggs, who delivered impressive performances at Notre Dame and LSU, further bolsters the team’s offensive strength.
However, the real selling point of the 2024 Ole Miss offensive units is an expansive receiver room among the best in college football. Tre Harris, Jordan Watkins, and Caden Preieskorn are back for the Rebels this fall and looking to take over the Southeastern Conference as the best receivers in the country, meaning the entire country as well. According to all the reports out of the program, all three guys have made significant improvements to their craft, giving Jaxon Dart more reliable weapons to lead Ole Miss to the top of the college football mountaintop.
Ole Miss’s offensive line is a force to be reckoned with, boasting three returning starters. Caleb Warren, Jeremy James, and Micah Pettus, with a combined 118 starts, provide a solid foundation. The addition of Nate Kalepo, who brought 15 starts from his time in Washington, further strengthened the line. This experience and depth give Ole Miss a significant advantage as they prepare to face a challenging schedule.
Ole Miss certainly has the depth on the offensive side of the ball to make a lot of noise this season; barring any injuries, the Rebels will be among the best in college football in terms of overall offensive numbers. As Coach Kiffin takes the podium on Monday, he will likely share more information while trying not to feed the rat poison that could hinder the potential of the 2024 Rebels offensive units.
