Fresh off another ten-win season, Memphis Football embraces 2024 as one that could forever change the landscape of Tigers Football for generations to come. With the expanded College Football Playoff, combined with the talent on the roster, Memphis has never been in to reach the playoff, forever changing the perception around Tigers Football for generations to come. Knocking down giants has been the mantra for the program since knocking off the 13th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels in 2015. Since then, Memphis Football has continued to defy the odds, further advancing the brand for generations of Memphis Football fans to come.
Heading into the 2024 season, Memphis Football returns the top offensive units in the American Athletic Conference, with Seth Henigan leading the charge at quarterback. Adding to Henigan’s veteran leadership is an expansive receiver room that rivals some of the best in the country. Roc Taylor, Koby Drake, and Demeer Blankumsee are names that Memphis and college football fans will hear much about this season. Combined with the experience on the offensive line with Jonah Gambill, Xavier Hill, and Anthony Landphere at tight end, it gives the Tigers an unreal advantage on offense in the AAC.

However, for the Tigers to be victorious in 2024 and reach the Playoffs, Memphis will need to improve on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, Memphis struggled on defense, allowing 423 yards per game and 28.8 points per game, a regression from the 2022 season. Following a much-improved game plan in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Coach Ryan Silverfield promoted Jordon Hankins from linebackers coach to the defensive coordinator position for the fall of 2024. Coach Hankins will have a challenge with just four returners from last season. Cormontae Hamilton and Keveion’ta Spears are the two returners up front, while Chandler Martin and Greg Rubin hold down the fort in the middle and the secondary.
With a favorable schedule for the Tigers, things could get interesting for Coach Silverfield and his program as they navigate the waters of expectations and the reality of an excellent football team. Memphis opens the season with games at home against North Alabama and Troy before heading south to Tallahassee to take on Mike Norvell and Florida State. Following the Florida State game, Memphis will have some winnable games against Navy, Middle Tennessee State, South Florida, and North Texas before the final regular season game on the road at Tulane.
All the pieces are there for Memphis to make a run at the American Athletic Championship and reach the College Football Playoff.
