Hush Y’all, it’s FedEx St. Jude Championship week in Memphis

A tradition dating back to 1958, it’s FedEx St. Jude Championship week in the 901, and as the world of sport turns its eyes to Memphis, the city is ready for the challenge. For many across the 901, FedEx St. Jude Championship week is a week of celebration and the annual passage of ending summer to the transition of the fall in the mid-south. Sure, the week at TPC Southwind has everything from extreme heat to washouts. Still, the environment around the course is one of celebration and the excitement of what’s to come in a few weeks as people from all walks of life gather each Saturday to watch college football.

For a second season, 70 of the best golfers in the world will take over TPC Southwind for the first leg of the FedEx Cup. Before being added to the Playoff rotation, the FedEx St. Jude Classic was a golf tournament that saw as many as 150 or more golfers every year with hopes of reaching the FedEx Cup; now, the FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first of three rounds of the end of season playoff for the top 70 golfers in the world.

For those unfamiliar with the golf world, since the foundation of LIV Golf in 2021, those golfers on the LIV Tour are not eligible to play in PGA-sanctioned events such as the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. What that means for fans making their way to TPC Southwind is that names like John Rahm, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau, among others, will not be in Memphis this week competing in the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

With that in mind, the golfers that fans can be excited about watching this week in Memphis are Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, Max Homa, Will Zalatoris, and Scottie Scheffler, among others, will take the fairways of TPC Southwind for an exciting week of golf. Most notable is Scottie Scheffler, who returns to Memphis fresh off an Olympic Gold Medal to go with an already crowded trophy case from the 2024 season.

From a fan perspective, there’ll be plenty of fantastic chances to create memories this week. From local Memphis attractions to the new and improved fan experiences at TPC Southwind, this year’s FedEx St. Jude Championship has the potential to be the greatest Tournament this city has ever seen. There’s a pro-am on Wednesday, practice rounds, and various attractions across the course that cater to golf fans of all ages to enjoy the week while taking in the remarkable sport of golf. Sometimes, old traditions embraced with new ones are suitable for the souls of all generations involved. There’s something about the FedEx St. Jude Championship that hits differently every year; this year will be no different.

All the action will get underway for the players on Monday, with practice rounds closed to the public, while the grounds will make way on Wednesday for fans to take over TPC Southwind for an exciting weekend of golf.
