Memphis takes center stage as the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship gets underway on Thursday at TPC Southwind

Before all the action gets underway on Thursday morning, several golfers joined the media at TPC Southwind to discuss the upcoming FedEx Cup and the following expectations. Despite the difference in golfers, the message was the same across the board: being back in Memphis is a good feeling for many as they embark on the first leg of the FedEx Cup at the same course that many golfers have success with in front of friendly crowds that want to see each golfer succeed at the highest level. Golfers stay near TPC Southwind and eat the good Memphis soul food while having a good experience with the grounds and an unbelievable fan turnout every year.

Sure, Memphis has problems like any other major city, but the FedEx St. Jude is a week to showcase everything that makes Memphis unique. From the food to the people to, most importantly, the life-changing work that St. Jude Research Hospital does in the fight to save millions of children from around the world from cancer and various other diseases that affect millions of kids each year. This tournament is an opportunity for the community to give back to St. Jude with the help of the PGA Tour.

The amount differs yearly, but the FedEx St. Jude Championship raises millions of dollars for the hospital. What also makes this event unique is the personal touches of caddy bibs designed by children at St. Jude for cancer patients lining the 18th on Sunday to greet each golfer as they finish the tournament. Those little details make the FedEx St. Jude Championships one of the best annual stops on the PGA Tour.

Just about every golfer to take the podium ahead of the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship spent time talking about how much each loved Memphis and how each experience is memorable at TPC Southwind as each golfer spoke about the course being one of the favorites on the PGA Tour.

Scottie Scheffler had this to say about his experience in Memphis and his excitement to return to TPC Southwind for an exciting weekend of golf in the 901. ” We know what to expect from the fans; it’s always a great turnout. The food is always really good, and the tournament treats us great. It’s great to be back in Memphis.”

For Collin Morikawa, playing with Memphis Baseball Head Coach Penny Hardaway in the Pro-am on Wednesday was the highlight so far in the tournament. Morikawa said about Head Coach Penny Hardaway, ” He’s really good. He’s really good. I think he had a handicap of 2 today. He made some legit — I think he made two actual birdies, like normal birdies without his handicap. He was striping it.

He’s such a tall guy, and that’s obviously how basketball players are, and he’s had, I think, six knee surgeries, so he asked me on 18 something he could work on just about rotation and getting it around the corner a little bit better. He hit some balls out to the right. Look, it was impressive. I didn’t know what to expect, and sometimes you see a two-handicap, and they’re not a 2, but I believe him. He’s a great player and a great guy to hang out with for nine holes today.”

All the action will get underway on Thursday morning and run through the weekend until Sunday afternoon, a weekend filled with celebration and good times across the 901.
