Taking a look at the golden year of Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler is on the ride of a lifetime as he enters the first round of the FedEx Cup this week in Memphis as part of the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. From spending a few hours in prison in the Louisville jail, becoming a Dad, and winning six tournaments, including the Masters and the Olympic gold medal, Scheffler comes into the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship as the clear-cut favorite to win the Championship and even compete for the ultimate prize of the FedEx Cup over the next month.

Every so often, a player’s greatness is hard to describe with words alone; Scottie Scheffler is one of those greats that people will talk about for generations to come. He is just about on the same level as Tiger Woods, but what makes Scottie so loved is his relationship with the fans. In a world of negative influences, the native Texan represents everything pure and positive with old-school values. Scottie Scheffler has given golf fans from all walks of life something to cling to that reminds them of better days when sports were a distraction and the athletes represented something bigger than themselves.

Regarding the upcoming 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship, no golfer in the field feels better about their game than Scottie Scheffler. Fresh off an Olympic Gold Medal, adding to the seven wins this season, including Augusta at the Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, and The Memorial at Muirfield. Scottie Scheffler, without question, comes into the FedEx St. Jude Championship as a contender for Golfer Of The Year; a win in Memphis or even a top-five finish would give Scottie an extra layer of swagger heading into the final two tournaments of the FedEx Cup.

Good news for Scottie and others: although challenging, TPC Southwind is a favorable course for his game. It plays much shorter than other courses on the Tour, which is good for a guy with an excellent short game like Scottie Scheffler. Unlike other golfers, Scottie might get off to a slow start on Thursday, but he’s never out of any tournament; his mental toughness separates him from the pack. Sure, being a good golfer takes skill, but having the mental toughness to flush the foul shots to replace them with better shots separates the average pros from the most significant players.

Scottie Scheffler will start his 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship journey on Thursday with a tee time of 12:35, pairing with Xander Schauffele.
