There’s no other way around it; last Saturday night against Toledo was a disaster. Mississippi State allowed a team from the MAC Conference to come into Davis Wade Stadium and push the Bulldogs faithful to a feeling of helplessness and despair as the Coach Lebby era was off to a rocky 1-2 start with the SEC opener looming against Florida, the program needed a shot in the arm to remind everyone that year one is about trusting the Jeff Lebby process.
” Trust the process” is often used by coaches to encourage patience from their fan bases as they shape a program to their vision. For Coach Lebby and his staff, this trust in the program’s overall health was rewarded when an anonymous Mississippi State donor stepped up with a game-changing eight-million-dollar donation following two significant commitments from program-altering recruits.

While the loss to Toledo was a setback for Coach Lebby and the rebuilding process, Saturday’s game against Florida presents a fresh opportunity to improve and secure the first Southeastern Conference win under Coach Lebby. Florida, coming into the game amidst their own challenges, will be a tough opponent. Many around Gator Nation are calling for Head Coach Billy Napier to be let go, which adds an extra layer of anticipation to the game.
For whatever reason, college football has become a sport where it’s all about the right now. That’s why the overreaction to the loss to Toledo is overblown and overly dramatic for some; Coach Lebby is turning Mississippi State into a program that does the right way by producing a product on and off the field that makes Mississippi State fans proud to be a Bulldog. There’s something special brewing within Starkville, Mississippi; it might take a bit, but Mississippi State football is in the best shape under exemplary leadership; winning football takes time and patience. Let’s not forget the positive strides the team has made and the promising future ahead.
Coach Lebby and his Mississippi State Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday morning as they welcome the Gators of Florida to Davis Wade Stadium for the annual whiteout game. Fans can expect the Bulldogs to come out with a bit of fire after last Saturday’s disaster. Given all the turmoil inside the Gators locker room, Mississippi State has the advantage over the visitors from Gainesville.
