Despite losing another Southeastern Conference game to the Georgia Bulldogs, there’s a revival happening inside the locker room of the Mississippi State Football program; who knows when that breakthrough win will come, but the guys that wear the maroon and white and have gone all in on Coach Lebby and his coaching staff. The wins might not be there yet, but the attitude has shifted, and the guys have bought into what Coach Lebby is trying to build in Starkville, Mississippi. We saw evidence of that in the last two weeks when the Bulldogs traveled to Texas and Georgia and fought like hell against two of the better teams in the country. Guys were flying all around the field, not backing down, and making Mississippi State competitive in both games.
As the Bulldogs gear up for the latter part of the 2024 season, there’s a tangible sense of anticipation for potential upsets brewing within Coach Lebby’s program. The players have fully embraced their roles, the fan support remains steadfast, and the overall atmosphere within the program is reminiscent of the glory days under Coach Mullen and later Mike Leach. These were the days that saw Mississippi State Football soar to unprecedented heights. The potential for upsets is not just a possibility but a growing belief among the team and its supporters, sparking excitement and hope for what’s to come.
A certain level of swagger has taken over the Mississippi State Football program as Coach Lebby continues the grind of reshaping Bulldogs Football for generations to come. The fans feel the swagger, and the players feed off the energy. Nobody knows when that big win will come this season, but it’s coming. Some have pointed to the game on Saturday against Texas A&M, Arkansas next week, or even the Egg Bowl at the end of the season.

Losing starting quarterback Blake Shapen was less than ideal for Coach Lebby and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Yet, Michael Van Buren has brought the Bulldogs an unexpected spark to the offense, giving Mississippi State a fighting chance against the rest of the schedule. Van Buren threw for 306 yards on three touchdowns against Georgia on Saturday night, keeping Mississippi State within striking distance of a world-ending upset of Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. Combine that with the weapons in the receiver core with Kevin Coleman, Seydo Traore, Kelly Akharaiyi, and Mario Craver, and you have an offensive unit that brings that swag while giving the Bulldogs multiple ways to light up the scoreboard.

On the defensive side of the Mississippi State swagger, you have guys like Stone Blanton, Brylan Lanier, and Corey Ellington, among others, who have started to produce and turn the defense into an old-school Bulldogs look. They might not have depth as others, but that Mississippi State defensive unit has answered the call and seems to be a game or two away from figuring things out and making Mississippi State all that much better.
Who knows what the 2024 Mississippi State football team will look like when everything settles, but there’s a revival going on inside the program, and the future under Coach Lebby’s leadership has never looked better. There’s something special brewing in Starkville, Mississippi; you take the outlook on the overall athletic department combined with the exciting future of Mississippi State Football, and you get this feeling that Coach Lebby will deliver Showtime to the Bulldog faithful sooner rather than later.
Mississippi State will return to Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a chance to shock a top-25-ranked Aggies team.
