Thoughts and takeaways from the 63-31 domination of Arkansas for Ole Miss on Saturday

Entering the first weekend of November, Coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels needed a get-right game against Arkansas before putting pressure on the regular season’s final three games against Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi State. Despite losses to Kentucky and LSU, Ole Miss is still in play for the College Football Playoff and may even make a trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship. With the back against the wall, Ole Miss came into the Arkansas game on Saturday on a mission, lighting up the Razorbacks for 63 points, with Jaxson Dart leading the charge for the Rebels.

For Ole Miss, the 2024 season to date has been weird; in some games, the Rebels look like a National Championship contender, while games like Kentucky and LSU happened, Saturday morning against Arkansas was probably the most complete game Ole Miss has shown all season. Everything clicked in favor of the Rebels while returning to Oxford with the hype train ahead of the highly anticipated matchup with Georgia next Saturday at Vaught Hemingway Stadium.

From the opening kick to the final whistle, Ole Miss dominated the Razorbacks. Ole Miss jumped out to a 35-10 lead at halftime and never looked back, even allowing the second team to get valuable reps needed to further Ole Miss with a month left before the postseason.

On the offensive side of the ball, it was the three-headed monster of Jaxson Dart, connecting with Jordan Watkins and Cayden Lee for well over 500 yards on six touchdowns through the air on Saturday. Not to mention an added touchdown boost from backup QB Austin Simmons, giving the Rebels nearly 70 points on Saturday. Jaxson Dart finished the day 25-31 with six touchdowns and 515 yards of total passing yards.

On the offensive side, Ole Miss looked and performed to the standard that many expected to see from the Rebels all season long. There appeared to be a weight lifted off the shoulders of the Rebels, and the offense led the charge. For Ole Miss to make a run at the College Football Playoff, they’ll need Jaxson Dart to play to his potential without hesitation or fear of mistakes. Ole Miss can go as far as Jaxson Dart will take them, using Saturday as the springboard; Ole Miss has an exciting three games before a magical postseason run.

Of noteworthy importance, the sixty-three points scored on Saturday morning against Arkansas tied the single-game record against a Southeastern Conference foe in Ole Miss Football history.

Despite the two losses, Ole Miss controls its destiny. With the best two-loss team in the country, there’s still something magical about the 2024 Ole Miss Rebels that has yet to be told. Every season is a series of short stories that make up the total package for a storied book finish; Ole Miss has been battle-tested, and after the 63-31 win over Arkansas, the reality of the biggest game in Lane Kiffin era is now within the week as they welcome the Bulldogs of Georgia to Vaught Hemingway Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
