Memphis Football once again buried the UAB Blazers on Saturday, proving how the program has come under the leadership of Coach Ryan Silverfield as the Tigers approach the final bye week of the season before closing the regular season in New Orleans against Tulane. An American Athletic Conference Championship might not be in play for the Tigers, but there’s a lot to play for as they continue the push to take Memphis to the next level under Coach Silverfield.
For years, UAB, Southern Miss, Marshall, and Arkansas State were the measuring sticks for Memphis Football fans. Still, after another blowout win against the Blazers, the focus shifted to catching Tulane with a win over the Green Wave on Thanksgiving night. A win over Tulane would provide the Tigers with a 10th regular season win for the second time under Coach Silverfield.
Despite what some may say, back in the day, winning ten games was unheard of; a win over Tulane is an eleven-win season is now on the table for the Tigers for the second time in program history, the first since the magical ride of 2019 where the Tigers rode the wave of success to the Cotton Bowl.
Memphis has a bye week before traveling to Tulane for a Thanksgiving matchup with the Green Wave. No matter the outcome, Memphis will likely play in an excellent postseason bowl event following the game with the Green Wave. However, a win over Tulane on Thanksgiving would spoil the Green Wave’s hope of a College Football Playoff bid. Tulane has a spot in the American Athletic Championship game on lock as they’ll likely travel to Army for the Championship game.

As far as the Tigers go, as much heat as Seth Henigan gets for questionable decision-making, we’ve reached the point where one of the greatest quarterbacks in program history has two games remaining in the blue and grey. When Memphis looks back on the last four years, Seth Henigan did it all for the Tigers; last season, he led the Tigers to a massive win in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl; he’s broken multiple school records and did it all with class and dignity. Life after Seth will be challenging to navigate, but Coach Silverfield and the Tigers have two more games with the living Memphis Football legend.
Enjoy the ride, Memphis fans; these next two games have the potential to be ones that future generations learn about as they become indoctrinated into the world of Memphis Football.
