Following a disappointing loss to Temple on Thursday night, the Tigers kept the show on the road as they traveled to North Carolina to take on Charlotte in a potential get-right game for the Tigers.
At 7-11 and 0-5 in the American, Charlotte gave the Tigers an easy game before a two-game home stint starting Thursday night against the Shockers of Witchita State. Charlotte showed signs of life in the second half, but Memphis had too much talent in the arsenal for the 49ers to keep up with.
In the first half, Memphis built a dominant lead over Charlotte, taking a 41-25 lead to the locker room.
As the second half began, Coach Penny Hardaway had his boys lasered in and focused on the task at hand as they fought off every run at the lead that Charlotte threw at them. In the end, the 49er’s effort went by the wayside, and Memphis escaped with a get-right win following the disappointing loss on Thursday night to Temple.

Memphis saw the usual suspects score inside double digits today. PJ Haggerty led the charge with 18 points, Tyrese Hunter finished with 15, and Dain Dainja finished the day with 14. Colby Rogers was close with nine points, while Jourdain, Cisse, and Harris finished with five.
Sunday saw an improvement in effort on the glass, with Memphis outrebounding the 49ers 42-28. Memphis also capitalized on the 12 Charlotte turnovers, scoring 19 points off those turnovers.
Although not ideal for an NCAA Tournament resume, sometimes you must be humbled to proceed into greener pastures. Temple was the wake-up call that despite playing in a one-bid league, Memphis still has a bullseye on their back, and Sunday was the perfect amount of swagger to get right and back in the win column before a challenging week with two teams in the top half of the American Athletic Conference.
With the win, #18 Memphis improves to 14-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
