The 17th-ranked Memphis Tigers welcomed Temple to the FedEx Forum for round two between the two for a Sunday showcase of American Athletic powers.
Coming into the game with Temple, the Tigers were on a mission to extend the six-game winning streak to seven after the last loss came in a road game at Temple, where the Tigers fell victim to the Owls by seven points. Sunday was more than another game; the Tigers sat out to avenge their lone conference loss while maintaining their seat at the American Athletic Conference standings.

Memphis used a different starting lineup in the first half after Tyrese Hunter suffered a knee injury. Dante Harris replaced Hunter in the starting five.
The first half of play delivered a high level of basketball, with the Memphis Tigers failing to pull away from Temple as they went to the locker room tied at 35. Dain Dainja scored eight points for the Memphis Tigers, while Nicholas Jourdain finished the half with seven. Tigers finished the first half with eleven points.
As the second half got underway, so did the Tiger’s lead; at the under-16 media timeout, a PJ Haggerty three-pointer extended the Memphis lead to 47-42 over Temple. Temple would respond off a few Tigers turnovers to make it a one-point game with 14:00 on the clock. An and one out of the timeout from PJ Haggerty would extend the Tiger’s lead back to four over the Owls of Temple. Under-12 media timeout had the Memphis Tigers on top of Temple 55-49. Under-8 media timeout saw the Memphis lead extend to eleven at 69-58 over Temple.
Things weren’t pretty for the Tigers on Sunday in their win over Temple, but a gutsy win was all they needed to extend their winning streak to seven.
Memphis will return to action on Thursday night as they travel to Tampa, Florida, to take on the USF Bulls before remaining on the road with a game on Sunday morning at Wichita State. The Tigers’ next home game will be on February 23rd when they host the FAU Owls for another mid-afternoon Sunday matchup.
