With two weeks remaining until the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Mississippi State opened the final five-game stretch with a road game in Norman, Oklahoma, on Saturday. Despite a 3-10 Southeastern Conference record, the Sooners challenged Mississippi State to overcome on Saturday, giving Coach Jans and his Bulldogs another needed test ahead of their March Madness run.
Mississippi State jumped out to an early lead over the Sooners in the first half, taking a 37-34 lead over Oklahoma at the break.
As it goes with a future hall-of-fame coach in Porter Moser, the Sooners jumped out on Mississippi State to start the second half with a 55-51 lead at the under-16 media timeout. At the under-12 media timeout, Oklahoma maintained a 62-57 lead over the Bulldogs. With 9:06 on the clock, the Sooners had raced out to a 69-61 lead over Mississippi State, forcing Coach Jans to call a timeout to calm the choppy waters for his Bulldogs. However, despite late-game heroics, the Sooner’s lead was too much for the Bulldogs as Oklahoma snapped a five-game losing streak by a score of 93-87.

Mississippi State ran into a buzz saw on Saturday as the Sooners proved too much for the Bulldogs. Just an all-around ugly performance from Mississippi State today, taking away from the positives from the last week and once again exposing the weaknesses of the Bulldogs as they turn the corner to the home stretch for March. Unfortunately, the road swing gets even more challenging for Mississippi State on Tuesday night as they travel to Coleman Coliseum to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. The good news, though, is that after the Alabama game, Mississippi State has the opportunity to pick up some wins on three teams in the lower tier of the Southeastern Conference this season with a home game against LSU next Saturday and Texas on the following Tuesday before closing out the regular season slate with a road trip to Bud Walton Arena to take on the Razorbacks of Arkansas.
