#24 Ole Miss takes game one 9-1 over Wright State, extending the win streak to seven games

Following a thrilling mid-week win over in-state foe Southern Miss, the Ole Miss Rebels would shift the focus for a three-game home set as they welcomed Wright State to Swayze Field.

Coming into the weekend series against Wright State, the 24th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels were among the hottest teams in college baseball. The Rebels brought a six-game winning streak into the series’ first game on Friday night.

Friday night means only one thing for the Rebels: Hunter Elliott’s night on the mound. With a season ERA of 0.00, Elliott brought the juice on Friday night for the Rebels, as he went five complete innings of one-hit baseball with seven strikeouts. Hunter gave his usual for the Rebels as he worked a six-run lead over Wright State in his five innings of work on Friday night. Ole Miss would turn to Alex Canney in the 6th inning to give the Rebels a decent inning of three-hit baseball, with one run given up to Wright State, before bringing in Cade Townsend in the top of the 7th inning. Townsend gave the Rebels two complete innings with no hits, striking out three. Ole Miss would turn to Patrick Galle to close out the deal for the Rebels in the 9th inning with a 9-1 cushion over Wright State. Despite walking one, giving up two hits, and having the bases loaded, Galle closed the deal, giving the Rebels a 9-1 victory over Wright State to take game one of the series.

As it did against Southern Miss on Tuesday night, the Ole Miss offense exploded for nine runs in game one of the series on Friday night. Judd Utermark had a monster three-run in the bottom of the third inning, adding three runs to the scoreboard at Swayze Field. All but one Ole Miss batter got a hit on Friday night as the onslaught of runs poured on the visitors from Dayton, Ohio.

Ole Miss Box Score

Despite being picked second to last in the Southeastern Conference, the Ole Miss Rebels continue to showcase the depth of the roster and the potential this team has to not only make some noise in Hoover at the SEC Tournament but they might even play their way into the discussion of hosting an NCAA Tournament Regional at Swayze Field.

With the win, Ole Miss improves to 8-1 on the season, extending its winning streak to seven games.

Ole Miss will go for the series on Saturday evening, with a first pitch slated for 4:00.
