Mississippi State evens the season series with #20 Southern Miss by run ruling the Golden Eagles 18-3

Fresh off a disappointing weekend in Houston, the Mississippi State would welcome Southern Miss on a cold, gloomy day at Dudy Noble Field for round two of the two-game mid-week series with the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss took the first game 3-0 at Pete Taylor Park in early February, sending a wake-up call to the entire Mississippi State Baseball program to figure out the kinks before the second meeting between the two schools on March 5th in Starkville.

Although they’ll never admit it, getting right against Southern Miss was at the forefront of the Bulldogs’ minds, as a get-right game was on their minds on Tuesday night.

A get-right game was what the doctor ordered on Tuesday night for the Bulldogs, as they opened up the offensive firepower, scoring eighteen runs and ruling Southern Miss 18-3 in seven innings. Four Mississippi State batters had home runs against Southern Miss on Tuesday night. Bryce Chance, Ace Reese, and Noah Sullivan had one home run each, while Nolan Stevens hammered two home runs for the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

On the mound, the transfer Jacob Pruitt got the midweek start for the Bulldogs. Pruitt gave the Bulldogs 3.2 inning of okay pitching, giving up three hits, three runs, two walks, and a pair of strikeouts against the Southern Miss lineup. Chase Hungate would deliver the Bulldogs 2.1 innings of near-perfect baseball, giving up a pair of hits, no runs, and one strikeout before giving the mound to Evan Siary to bring it home for the Bulldogs.

Contrary to popular belief, the season was not over the weekend when the Bulldogs were two out of three in Houston. Mississippi State showcased its potential this season with 18 runs scored in the drubbing of Southern Miss on Tuesday night.

Mississippi State will remain at Dudy Noble this weekend as they welcome Queens to Starkville for the final non-conference weekend series of the season before the SEC opener against Texas next weekend.
