#18 Ole Miss takes the series over Missouri with a game two 17-10 victory

Saturday in Columbia, Missouri, would see game two action between the 18th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels and the Missouri Tigers, with a chance to pick up a nice road series for the Rebels on the line.

After taking game one 9-6 on Friday, the Rebels came into game two with the Missouri Tigers looking to pick up a massive road series win over a team in the Tigers of Missouri who are trying everything they can to salvage a disappointing season to date. For the Rebels, a win over Missouri would mark the season’s first Southeastern Conference series win after losing two out of three to Arkansas last weekend at Swayze Field in Oxford.

Last night, the Rebels and Tigers traded blows before the talented Ole Miss lineup took over, giving the Rebels the 9-6 win over Missouri.

As Saturday rolled around, Coach Bianco and his staff went with Riley Maddox to start on the mound for the Rebels. Maddox got shelled early, giving the Rebels 2.1 innings, giving up seven hits on seven runs with only one strikeout. Alex Canney would come in to calm the offensive onslaught from Missouri. Canney gave the Rebels a complete inning, striking out three Missouri batters with no runs. Walker Hooks would come in for middle relief for Ole Miss, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up two hits, one run, and four strikeouts.

However, as bad as the pitching was for Ole Miss on Saturday night, the bats came alive as the Rebels scored 17 runs in the game two series-clinching win over Missouri. Out of those 17 runs scored, five guys hit home runs. Will Furniss, Isaac Humphrey, Judd Utermark, Mitchell Sanford, and Ryan Moerman were the five home run hitters for the Rebels on Saturday night.

Ole Miss will go for the sweep on Sunday before returning home on Tuesday night for a regional rivalry against the Memphis Tigers.
