As April nears, a yearly tradition of the Memphis Tigers traveling south to Oxford, Mississippi, to Swayze Field to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in one of the more regional rivalries in college sports. It never matters the sport or the records involved; when Memphis and Ole Miss meet, it’s always a fun time for families and friends to come together to cheer on their Tigers or Rebels.
It was a picture-perfect night for baseball at Swayze Field. No cloud was in the sky, and the temperature at first pitch was nearing 73 degrees.
Ole Miss jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Memphis off the bat of Campbell Smithwick, who sent a solo shot well over the right field fence to set an early tone for the Rebels in the bottom of the second. Memphis responded with a two-run in the top half of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Rebels. The Memphis lead was short-lived as the Rebels tied the game in the bottom of the 4th before opening things up in the 5th inning by exploding for four runs to extend the Ole Miss lead to 6-2 over the Tigers. Memphis would respond with a two-run shot to left field from Will Vasseur to cut the Ole Miss lead to 6-4 with one out in the top half of the 6th inning. Memphis would add another run in the top half of the 7th to cut the Ole Miss lead to 6-5. Ole Miss added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th off-the-bat of Mitchell Sanford to make it 7-5 in favor of the Rebels.
In the end, Ole Miss was too much for the Memphis Tigers as the Rebels came away with a 7-5 victory over Memphis on Tuesday night.

Pitching is always weird in the midweek; both the Tigers and Rebels went through pitchers, with both starting pitchers lasting three complete innings of competitive midweek baseball.
Both Ole Miss and Memphis will have a home conference series this weekend. Ole Miss will welcome the struggling Florida Gators to Swayze Field on Thursday for game one of the three-game set. Memphis will return home to welcome Charlotte for the first home conference series of the year.
