On another rain-soaked night in Baton Rouge, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and the 8th-ranked LSU Tigers would meet inside the confines of Alex Box Stadium for game three of the three-game series.
LSU took the first two games, and the series, and the Tigers would try to shut down the Bulldogs on Saturday night to complete the series sweep.
Mississippi State Head Coach Chris Lemonis would turn to Karson Ligon for the start on late Saturday night. Ligon failed to get out of the first inning as he gave the Tigers a total of eight runs on seven hits, which was just a disaster of a start for the Bulldogs as they fell behind 8-0. Pitching coach Justin Park would turn to Ben Davis to close out the first and to bring stability to the Mississippi State defense. Despite giving up six hits in his 3.1 innings, Ben Davis only gave up two runs while striking out eight LSU batters. Luke Dotson made his debut during the 4th inning, as he came in looking to continue the momentum given by the impressive showing from Ben Davis. However, Dotson lasted 1.1 innings before being pulled after giving up three hits on three runs.

LSU opened the game on a heater, putting together an eight-run first inning to take an 8-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Hunter Hines would start things for the Bulldogs in the top half of the second inning with a solo shot sparking a four-run inning to cut into the deficit by making it 8-4 in favor of LSU. LSU would have a response of their own off the bat of Jake Brown with a base hit that scored Daniel Dickinson to extend the lead to 9-4 over the Bulldogs. LSU would add two more runs in the bottom of the 5th to make it 11-4 in favor of the Tigers. Mississippi State would strike back with a solo run in the top of the 6th inning to make it 11-5 Tigers. LSU would put together two insurance runs at the bottom of the 6th to extend the advantage over Mississippi State to 13-5. Mississippi State wouldn’t go down without a fight as the Bulldogs scored three runs in the top half of the 7th to make it 13-8 LSU. LSU would add another run in the bottom of the 7th before holding Mississippi State scoreless in the 8th. LSU would load the bases in the bottom of the 8th with a chance to end the game off the bat of Daniel Dickinson. Dickinson would earn a base hit to make it 16-8 LSU, with Steven Milam up to the plate. Milam would plate a 17th run off a sac fly, bringing the Tigers within one run of walking off the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 8th. The nine-run deficit was too for the Bulldogs to overcome as the Tigers completed the series sweep with a 17-8 win on Saturday night.
Mississippi State will return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to take on the Memphis Tigers.
