Mississippi State opens the Alabama road trip with an 8-3 win over UAB

Mississippi State opened its four-game road swing in Alabama with a midweek matchup against UAB on Tuesday night before heading to Tuscaloosa for a three-game SEC series with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Fresh off their first Southeastern Conference series of the season over the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Bulldogs would look to continue the momentum from the weekend with a midweek tilt with the UAB Blazers. For the Mississippi State faithful, the midweek with UAB gave flashbacks to the debacle of what happened in early March on the road at Southern Miss, as the Bulldogs would look not to drop another lousy loss, making the NCAA Tournament implications much more complicated.

Mississippi State would jump out to an early 2-0 lead over the Blazers in the top half of the first inning. UAB would respond with two runs in the bottom half of the second inning to make it two runs apiece. Mississippi State would put together a four-run 5th inning to retake the lead at 6-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. UAB would cut into the Mississippi State with a double from Hollifield to score a run to make it 6-3 in favor of the Bulldogs through five innings. Mississippi State would add two more insurance runs in the 8th inning to give the bullpen a cushion as the Bulldogs earned an 8-3 victory over UAB.

The utility player, Noah Sullivan, was on the mound tonight for the Bulldogs. Sullivan gave the Bulldogs two complete innings while giving up five hits on two earned runs to the Blazers and striking out one. McPherson would come in the third inning to give Mississippi State a long relief outing as he tried to calm the choppy waters of a midweek disaster.

Mississippi State will remain in Alabama as the Bulldogs head to Tuscaloosa for a three-game set with the Crimson Tide starting Friday night at 6:00.
