Fresh off a mid-week 8-3 win over UAB on Tuesday night, the Mississippi State Bulldogs would remain in Alabama looking to carry the momentum to the Crimson Tide of Alabama starting Friday night. Not only would the Bulldogs enter looking to carry momentum over from the midweek win over UAB, but they would also have an opportunity to win their second Southeastern Conference series of the year, and you can’t do that without taking the first game.

Friday in the Southeastern Conferences means the Bulldogs would have their ace on the mound in Pico Kohn. Kohn finished his night after four solid innings, delivering three strikeouts to outweigh the six hits on three runs given up to the Crimson Tide. Stone Simmons would come in for a long relief stint, holding Alabama to no runs and five strikeouts on five hits.
Giving Pico Kohn a 3-0 cushion with a three-run first inning capped off by a two-run moonshot off the bat of Hunter Hines. With the two-run home run in the first, Hunter Hines moved into sole second place on the Mississippi State home run list. Sawyer Reeves would add a run to the Mississippi State lead with a solo shot to make it 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs over the Crimson Tide midway through the 3rd inning. Alabama would cut into the Mississippi State lead with a base hit to make it 4-1 in favor of the Bulldogs at the end of the third inning. Mississippi State would continue to add runs as the Bulldogs cruised to a 13-3 run-ruled victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide to game one of the three-game series. Sawyer Reeves and Hunter Hines were the only two home runs for the Bulldogs on Friday night, as Mississippi Stae had patience at the plate and poured on runs with base hits and extra-base knocks.
Friday night was likely the most complete performance by the Bulldogs this season. Despite giving up 11 hits to the Alabama bats, the Bulldogs never backed down. They made good defensive decisions and rolled to an easy 13-3 game victory over Alabama on Friday night.
Mississippi State and Alabama will return to action on Saturday at 2:00, with the Bulldogs going for the series for the second straight week.
