On a picture-perfect Mississippi Saturday night, the 23rd-ranked Ole Miss Rebels would welcome Vanderbilt for game two of the three-game series as the Rebels looked to take the series following an impressive win on Friday night over the Commodores.
Ole Miss won game one 8-3 on Friday night over Vanderbilt, setting the scene for a wild Saturday night. Following the series’ losses over the last two weekends, the Rebels had the opportunity to take a series and extend their winning streak to four games.
Riley Maddox would get the start for the Rebels on Saturday night, as the Rebels trusted their Saturday night ace to bring it home for the Rebels. Maddox finished his night by giving the Rebels seven complete innings, giving up four hits and one run while striking out five Vanderbilt batters on Saturday night. Brayden Jones would come in to pitch in the top half of the 8th inning for the Rebels.

Vanderbilt struck first on Saturday night as RJ Austin stole home in the top half of the second inning to give the Commodores an early 1-0 lead over Ole Miss. The Vanderbilt lead would last all of two innings before the bottom of the 4th inning when the Rebels exploded for six runs, capped off by a three-run shot to left field from Ryan Moerman as the Rebels took a 6-1 lead to the 5th inning. Judd Utermark would add a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the 5th to extend the Ole Miss lead to 7-1 over Vanderbilt.
No matter how you slice it, Saturday’s series win was massive for Coach Mike Bianco and his Ole Miss Rebels, who continue to build a resume worthy of hosting an NCAA Tournament Regional. They’ll need a few more series wins, and a win or two in Hoover, but Ole Miss will likely be in contention for an Oxford Regional, and depending on how they finish, the conversation might shift to a top-eight seed for the Ole Miss Rebels.
Ole Miss will go for the sweep on Sunday, with a first pitch slated for 1:30 on the SEC Network Plus.
