Mississippi State picks up a third straight SEC series with a 13-3 win over Missouri

Following the fireworks from Thursday night, the Mississippi State Bulldogs would turn the page to take the series over Missouri on Friday night to earn a 14th Southeastern Conference win on the season. Not only would the Bulldogs be going for the series and a 14th SEC win, but Hunter Hines would also come into game two with the Tigers looking to break the all-time home run record at Mississippi State; last night, he tied the record at 67.

With the series on the line, Mississippi State would turn to Evan Siary to start for the Bulldogs. Siary delivered the Bulldog’s 3.2 innings; he gave up four hits and three runs while striking out six Missouri batters. It was not as impressive an outing as last week’s against Ole Miss, but Siary did the job for Mississippi State on Friday night. Ben Davis would come in to pitch for a long relief stint; Davis delivered 3.1 innings, gave up one hit, no runs, and five strikeouts. With the significant lead, Coach Justin Parker saved a few arms as the Bulldogs cruised to a series win over Missouri on Friday night.

On the offensive side tonight, the bats stayed hot as Mississippi State jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning. Joe Powell capped off the five-run first inning with a three-run home run that scored Stallman and Chance. Mississippi State would add three more in the second inning, with Bryce Chance leading the charge with a two-run home run that scored Hunter Hines. From there, the Bulldogs would add a run in the 4th, three in the 6th, and another in the 7th to make it 13-3 Mississippi State. The highlight of the night for Mississippi State came in the top of the 6th inning when Hunter Hines broke the all-time Mississippi State home run record with his career 68th home run in the maroon and white with a three-run shot to deep right field to add his name into the Mississippi State record books for all-time.

Mississippi State will try to sweep the series over Missouri and earn a higher seed in Hoover on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on the SEC Network Plus.
