Ole Miss earns the series over #6 Auburn with a 15-11 victory on Friday night

On a beautiful night for game two of a pivotal SEC series, the Ole Miss Rebels would welcome 6th-ranked Auburn back to Swayze Field as the Rebels look to continue to channel magic in a bottle as they looked to pick up a massive series win.

In the series with Auburn, there was talk of Ole Miss being on the edge of hosting an Oxford Regional. However, after the series loss to Mississippi State, those hoping to stay home for a Regional would take a back seat. Still, with Auburn coming to town, the Rebels face an unreal opportunity to break back into conversation with a series win over the Auburn Tigers. Ole Miss took game one on Thursday night 9-2 over Auburn, giving Ole Miss a massive chance to boost the resume with a series win on Friday night.

With a chance to secure a massive series win, Ole Miss would turn to their Saturday night starter in Riley Maddox. Maddox would give the Rebels 3.1 innings, giving up four hits and two runs with strikeouts. From there, the Rebels would go with a group bullpen effort, but Mason Morris did his usual while striking out five Auburn batters. As a pitching unit, Ole Miss combined for 11 strikeouts on Friday night.

With the nine runs scored on Thursday night in game one, the bats for Ole Miss again came alive as the Rebels jumped out early on Auburn on Friday night. Ole Miss scored three in the first to make it 3-0 Rebels before the Auburn Tigers added a run in the second and third innings to make it 3-2. From there, Ole Miss created some distance as the Rebels scored four runs in the bottom of the third, two in the 4th, one in the 5th, three more 6th, and two in the bottom of the 8th to give the Rebels 15 runs. Of the fifteen runs scored on Saturday night, Ole Miss had two home runs from Judd Utermark and one from Will Furniss to bring the season total for the Rebels to 100 home runs.

With the series win over Auburn, the guys at D1Baseball.com believe that Ole Miss is in line to host an Oxford Regional and could improve on that with a few wins in Hoover next week. Ole Miss will likely have all the metrics and could solidify their position with a few wins at the SEC Tournament next week in Hoover; as of right now, the Rebels are 16-13 in SEC play and 37-17 overall.

Ole Miss will go for the sweep of Auburn on Saturday at 1:30 on the SEC Network Plus.
