Needing one more win to secure a second national championship in three years and an eighth time in school history, the LSU Tigers would once again take the field on Sunday against Coastal Carolina. With Coach Skip Bertman in attendance, the Tigers would channel some of the energy that takes LSU to the next level at the Alex Box North when playing in the College World Series.
The fireworks were popping off early on Sunday as Coastal Carolina’s Head Coach Kevin Schnall and first base coach Matt Schilling were ejected for prolonged arguing, among other things, giving both coaches a multiple-game suspension, meaning if Coastal Carolina had beaten LSU on Sunday, then both coaches could not be in the dugout on Monday for game three and will face suspension for the start of next season as well.
Following the complete game shutout on Saturday night, Coach Jay Johnson decided to go with Anthony Eyanson on Sunday afternoon as the Tigers starting pitcher. At the same time, Coastal Carolina opted for Jacob Morrison as the starter for the Chanticleers. Morrison lasted 3.2 innings, giving up six hits and five runs, with just two strikeouts. Anthony Eyanson would get the call after a two-run shot in the bottom of the 7th as Coastal cut it to 5-3. Eyanson finished his day after 6.1 innings, giving up seven hits and three runs, all the while striking out nine Coastal Carolina batters. Chase Shores would come in for relief for Coach Jay Johnson and the LSU Tigers.

Following the ejection in the bottom of the first inning, Dean Mihos would put Coastal Carolina on the board first with a solo home run to the left-field bullpen in the bottom of the second, giving the Chanticleers an early 1-0 lead over the Tigers. A double from Ethan Frey would score Daniel Dickinson to tie the game at one for LSU in the top half of the third inning. From there, the Tigers would put together a four-run 4th inning as LSU jumped out to a 5-1 lead over Coastal Carolina, taking away what momentum the Chanticleers had been building. Wells Sykes would bring Coastal Carolina back into the game with two-run home runs in the bottom of the 7th, making it 5-3 Tigers.
LSU takes care of business, and the Tigers have now won their second College World Series in three years while adding an 8th National Championship Trophy to the trophy case at Alex Box Stadium. LSU has now once again proven to the college baseball world that the standard to follow resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as the Tigers continue to dominate the sport of college baseball.
