Once again, as another Sunday rolls around, the Tigers’ victories over another Power Four opponent, and the collective college football world seems to have taken notice of the fashion in which the cardiac Tigers came back and earned another season-changing win. Saturday was just another day in the office for the Memphis Tigers football program, they picked up their fourth straight win over a Power Four opponett dating back to the 2023 season where the Tigers defeated Iowa State in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, to the fact that Coach Silverfield and the Tigers now have the longest active winning streak in college football dating back to last season with a total of eight straight. Adding to the win total is now a four-game home winning streak over Southeastern Conference opponents dating back to the 2015 season, with wins over Ole Miss twice and single wins over Mississippi State and Arkansas.
Saturday was another foundation day for the Tigers football program as they once again showed the potential of Memphis football, despite falling behind by eighteen points in the first half. Overcoming an 18-point deficit is no easy feat, but the Razorbacks left the door open for the Tigers, and Coach Silverfield and his boys took full advantage and sent the Hogs home with a loss, all the while blowing the doors wide open on a race to the College Football Playoffs after Tulane got dominated by Ole Miss later that afternoon. With the AAC season opener looming on the horizon at FAU, the Tigers are now in the driver’s seat to reach the College Football Playoffs as the G5 representative if they can manage to win the American Championship.

Here’s the thing: despite a pitiful first half, the Tigers found a way to get it done in the second half by getting to the quarterback, taking advantage of the turnovers that were wrapped in a bow and handed to the Tigers’ defense, and then doing what had to be done to secure a victory. There was once a time when the Memphis Tigers would fall victim to a deficit and have no prayer of a comeback, but not this program, not right now. Memphis once again showed on Saturday that they can not only hang with those programs in the SEC, but they can beat them as well. Memphis is not only at the table, but in many ways, it now controls the conversation. Saturday was further proof of that; despite falling behind by 18, the Tigers trusted the process and earned a massive, season-defining win by doing so.
Overall, Saturday was another day in the office for the Memphis Tigers, ending in celebration and memories that will last a lifetime. As the Tigers turn the page on the celebration of taking down the Razorbacks of Arkansas, the focus shifts to harnessing the emotions and the highs of the Arkansas game, so as not to let a massive victory turn into a crumbling loss to a sneaky FAU team. In years past, when the Tigers secured a massive win, they would often forget to flip the switch and either experience a hard-fought victory or an agonizing defeat. All that matters this week is preparing for the FAU Owls, while keeping the focus on controlling what you can control and taking one game at a time. This means going 1-0 each and every week, rather than getting caught up in the conversation about the College Football Playoffs.
