#7 Ole Miss takes down Mississippi State 38-19 to win the 2025 Egg Bowl

On a brisk Black Friday, the 2025 chapter of the Egg Bowl would take place inside the confines of Davis Wade Stadium. On the other sideline, Ole Miss faced the distraction of a potential coaching change, with Coach Kiffin weighing his options between Ole Miss and LSU while trying to maintain College Football Playoff aspirations and the outside shot of reaching the SEC Championship in Atlanta. For Mississippi State, the Bulldogs came into the Egg Bowl needing a single win to reach the postseason for the first time since 2022, and had the chance to knock Ole Miss out of the College Football Playoffs.

Ole Miss won the coin toss and elected to receive, taking it down the field and throwing the first punch with a Kewan Lacy rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Mississippi State would respond with a quick drive led by KaMario Taylor, who capped off the drive with a 22-yard quarterback keeper to tie it at seven. Ole Miss would respond with another touchdown drive, capped off by a Trinidad Chambliss to Harrison Wallace to retake a 14-7 lead over the Bulldogs with 5:22 in the first quarter. Ole Miss would miss a 37-yard field goal attempt to open the second quarter. KaMario Taylor would give Mississippi State a 39-yard rush on the first play from scrimmage, but a tipped ball that turned into an Ole Miss interception would give the Rebels the ball back. However, three bad passes from Chambliss would cause Ole Miss to stall out and give Mississippi State the ball back with a punt. Kyle Ferrie cut the Ole Miss lead for Mississippi State with a 40-yard field goal to make it 14-10 with 1:45 remaining in the half. Ole Miss would respond with a quick touchdown drive capped off by Chambliss finding Stribling in the endzone to extend the lead to 21-10 with 12 seconds in the half.

Mississippi State would open the second half with the ball. Kyle Ferrie would give Mississippi State three points with a 38-yard field goal to cut the Ole Miss lead to 21-13. Ole Miss would add a field goal of their own off the leg of Lucas Carneiro with a 43-yard field goal to extend the Rebels’ lead to 24-13. At the end of the third, Ole Miss held on to a 24-13 lead over Mississippi State as the Rebels faced a second down inside the red zone. Ole Miss would extend the lead to 31-13 with Chambliss finding Stribling with a perfect touchdown pass to the back of the end zone with 13:46 remaining in the game. KaMario Taylor would turn nothing into something as he escaped the Ole Miss defenders for a 35-yard Mississippi State touchdown to cut it to 31-19 with 10:40 remaining. Ole Miss would respond with an 88-yard touchdown pass as Chambliss connects with Alexander to extend the lead to 38-19 with 9:50 remaining. A turnover on downs for Mississippi State would all but secure the victory for Coach Kiffin and the Rebels as they led it 38-19.

With the win over Mississippi State in the 2025 Egg Bowl, Coach Kiffin and Ole Miss will likely hear their names called next Sunday as not only a College Football Playoff team, but as a host for the first round at Vaught Hemingway. As for the future of Coach Kiffin as Head Coach at Ole Miss, the Kiffin camp is expected to announce its decision no later than Saturday morning.

For Mississippi State, the Bulldogs finish the 2025 season with a 5-7 record and will miss the postseason for a third straight season. Improved from last season but still short of the postseason.
