With it being Easter Weekend, most of the action in the Southeastern Conference got underway on Thursday night with top-25 matchups, including the highly anticipated one between 4th-ranked Mississippi State and 5th-ranked Georgia at Dudy Noble Field, you also had Arkansas at Auburn, Alabama at Oklomaha, then a few games between ranked and unranked teams like Florida and Ole Miss, Vanderbilt at Texas A&M, and Texas at South Carolina.
Starting things off with the banger of a series between the 5th-ranked Georgia and the 4th-ranked Mississippi State. Both came into the weekend with identical 7-2 conference records, while Mississippi State has looked a bit more elite than Georgia, it was the visitors from Athens, though, looking to keep the bats alive on Friday night as they sought to earn a game one victory over Mississippi State. To this point in the season, Georgia has been viewed as the third-best in the Southeastern Conference behind Texas and Mississippi State, with that came a chip on the shoulder on Thursday night as they jumped out early on Misssissippi State and never looked back as they extended the lead to 10-2 over Mississippi State in top half of the 5th inning and seemed to be well in control, but it Mississippi State would mount a comeback in the bottom half of the 7th inning cutting the Georgia lead to 10-7 heading to the 8th inning. Mississippi State would add two runs in the 9th to make it interesting, but in the end, Georgia escaped with a 10-9 victory to take game one of the series.

Staying with the Mississippi schools, you had Ole Miss going into Gainesville to take on the 21st-ranked Florida team fresh off a road sweep of Arkansas last weekend. For the Rebels, a game one victory over Florida would be a huge shot in the arm after last week’s debacle, where they were swept at home by Mississippi State. Ole Miss would find a way on Thursday night to secure a 6-4 victory over the Gators, as they will now go for the series on Friday night.

Elsewhere around the Southeastern Conference, the Alabama schools looked to take game one victories as the Crimson Tide sought to remain hot, and Auburn looked to snap a four-game losing streak in which the Tigers were dominated by Alabama and Georgia Tech in the midweek. Alabama would be on the road in Norman, facing the Sooners of Oklahoma, while Auburn hosted Arkansas at Plainsman Park. Alabama jumped out to an early 10-1 lead over the Sooners and never looked back. The Sooners would add three more runs to the scoreboard, but the hole was too deep to climb out of as the Crimson Tide rolled to a massive game one victory over the Sooners. For Auburn, the Tigers jumped back into the saddle on Thursday night as the bats came alive and dominated Arkansas, even earning a 10-1 victory over the Razorbacks.
Then, weirdly enough, you had South Carolina dominating Texas 9-1 at home on Thursday night to give the Gamecocks their second conference win of the season. A remarkable win for Coach Monte Lee and the Gamecocks.
Then you had Vanderbilt go into College Station and put on a clinic with the bats coming alive as they scored 14 runs, and taking game one of the series 14-8 over the Aggies.
