Conway, South Carolina:
Mullets, College Gameday, and the Beach all have Coastal Carolina Football fans at peak level, with the 2021 season right around the corner. 2020 was a magical ride for the folks from Myrtle Beach as the Chanticleers raced out to an impressive 11-0 start before ending the season with a loss to Liberty. Despite that loss, Coastal Carolina fans are ready to continue that party into a new season, and rightfully so. Coastal Carolina returns nineteen starters from last season, nine on the offensive side of the ball, and ten guys on defense. With talent like that, it’s easy to understand the hype train surrounding this program heading into a new season.
In 2020, Coastal Carolina had one of the best offensive units in the country. As a team, Coastal Carolina averaged 37.2 points per game, with 449.8 yards per game. They quickly became a legitimate threat to any opponent on their schedule. As far as this season goes, fans and foes alike can expect more of the same out of Coach Chadwell’s team.

So who can fans watch out for on this explosive Coastal Carolina offensive unit? For starters, all things start and end with the brick wall upfront. Antwine Loper, Willie Lampkin, Sam Thompson, Trey Carter, and Steven Bedosky all return to make a brick wall for Grayson McCall at quarterback and Reese White at running back. As far as the receiving core goes, all eyes will be turned to Jaivon Heiligh to be a leader for this unit.
On the other side of the ball, it’s no secret that Coastal Carolina will have one of the best overall defensives in the Sun Belt Conference and even in the country. Coastal Carolina returns ten guys from a team last season on average held opponents to only twenty points a game and a total of 351.9 yards per game.
It’s going to be difficult to block this defensive unit this season. If a team wants any shot at defeating Coastal, it all starts and ends by keeping this unit on the field for an extended period and capitalizing on those drives that do indeed find themselves in the red zone. Because here’s the thing, Coastal Carolina is going to score a lot of points, but if you get to the defense early, it’ll give your team a chance at upsetting one of the best teams in the country.
Head Coach Jamey Chadwell will have his Coastal Carolina team out for blood this year as they look to prove they belong.
Coastal Carolina will begin their season on September 4th at home against The Citadel.
