In the second and final game of the Wednesday night session of the 2023 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, LSU, in a thriller over Georgia 72-67, advancing to the Thursday rounds, where the Tigers will play Vanderbilt.
Heading into the game, LSU had only won two Southeastern Conference games this season, with the sole meeting with Georgia going in favor of the Bulldogs. LSU came into the 2023 Southeastern Conference with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, looking to be the cinderella of the Tournament. LSU’s last Southeastern Conference win came two weeks ago when the Tigers outplayed Vanderbilt and earned a massive win over Jerry Stackhouse and his program. LSU will look to do the same on Thursday as they face a Vanderbilt Basketball team that is fighting for an NCAA Tournament bid after winning three straight since losing to LSU two weeks ago.

As far as their win on Wednesday night goes, LSU punched Georgia in the mouth early on, and the Tigers did not look back. Georgia would claw their way back in the game at the under-12 media timeout by cutting the LSU lead to three with 10:10 remaining in the second half. From there, LSU would control the tempo forcing Georgia to play desperation basketball.
Georgia finished the season with six Southeastern Conference wins and a lot more questions than answers as Head Coach Mike White tries to rebrand Georgia Basketball into a relevant basketball program in the SEC.
For the LSU Tigers, the win over Georgia on Wednesday night was a massive program win for first-year Head Coach Matt McMahon. Looking back on the positives of this season, LSU fans will point back to Wednesday night of the 2023 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament to say that was the night that LSU Basketball showed promise for a bright future of Tigers Basketball.
LSU and Vanderbilt will tip off in the late game on Thursday night, with the winner advancing to play Kentucky on Friday night.
