A beautiful night for baseball in New Orleans brought UTSA and Tulane together for game two of the three-game series. UTSA came into Saturday night’s matchup looking to take the series over the Green Wave after taking game one 7-3 on Friday night.
UTSA came into the weekend series at Tulane atop the American Conference at 11-5 in conference play and 28-13 overall. Tulane would come into the weekend looking to make up ground, as they sit in the middle of the pack at 7-9 in American play and 21-22 overall.
UTSA jumped on the Green Wave early on Friday night, taking a 7-0 lead through the first three innings. Tulane would make things interesting in the 9th with a run, adding to the two scored in the bottom of the 4th, but in the end, the deficit was too large for the Green Wave to overcome as UTSA cruised to a 7-3 game one victory.
Game two opened with a six-run top of the first inning for UTSA, capped off by a grand slam from Cade Sadler to go with the solo shot that started the game from Caden Miller to make it 6-0 Roadrunners. UTSA would add two more runs in the top half of the 5th inning off the bat of Diego Diaz as he went yard to right field with a two-run shot to make it 8-0 over the Green Wave. Tulane would add two runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the 8th to cut the UTSA lead to 8-2 heading to the 9th inning.

Tulane would be the first to go to the mound on Saturday night, as Jake Toporek didn’t make it through the first inning without giving up five hits and six runs. UTSA would follow suit in the bottom of the 7th as Connor Myles would finish his night after six innings, giving up three hits, zero runs, three strikeouts, and three walks.
Despite late-game efforts by Tulane, the UTSA lead was too much to overcome as the Roadrunners took the game two series decider 8-2 and will now shift the focus to a sweep of the Green Wave on Sunday.
UTSA came into the weekend looking to make another statement, and after this weekend, the American will likely come down to a two-way battle between UTSA and UAB. From the looks of things, UTSA is the clear-cut favorite heading into May to win the American outright and will be the favorite to win the conference tournament in Clearwater. A lot of baseball to be played, but the Roadrunners are elite; they have the bats and the pitching to make a return to a Super Regional and even possibly further with this lineup this upcoming postseason. Take tonight, for example, UTSA did all the small things right, zero errors, played really good defense, and they walked away with a massive series win over Tulane. For a program with just five conference losses this season, UTSA has everything figured out and can only continue to improve as the calendar turns from April to May.
