Arkansas State wins a thriller 59-52 over Georgia State

Jonesboro, Arkansas:

Thursday night in the ” Fun Belt” did not disappoint. Arkansas State and Georgia State delivered what could very well be the most exciting game of this season. These two teams found like heck all game long, throwing knockout blows until the final whistle. In a game that set the record books to fire and saw a combined 111 total points and saw 1,192 total yards, one would say this was an instant classic, and an instant classic it was.

Let’s start with the first half. The first half of the game set the pace for what was to come. The game started with a bang as Logan Bonner found Tyler Reed on a three-yard touchdown pass after a botched snap on a punt from Georgia State. Then as quickly as Arkansas State would score, it was Cornelious Brown with a 35-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game at seven. From there, it was a full on marathon, with both teams throwing crushing blows to the other.

With the two deadlocked at the break, you could sense something special was about to happen. And special was an understatement.

It started with Georgia State delivering the first blow on a pass from Cornelious Brown to Sam Pickney to give the Panthers a 35-28 lead with 13:30 to play in the 3rd. From there, Arkansas State put together a beautiful drive to tie the game at 35.

Like in the first half, these two exchanged blows until the very end where Arkansas State got the go-ahead touchdown with a 22-yard pass from Rashauud Paul to Lincoln Pare. After that touchdown, it was the Red Wolves defense that finally sealed the deal with a massive red zone stop in the closing seconds to pull out the win for Arkansas State.

With the win, Arkansas State improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
