What to watch out for at Wednesday’s FedEx St. Jude Championship Pro- AM and a recap of Tuesday’s practice rounds

A tradition as old as the Tournament itself, Pro-Am Wednesday at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, and the excitement levels are through the roof. Wednesday is also the last chance for the Golfers to practice on the TPC Southwind Course before the real deal gets underway on Thursday. Crazy to think we’re halfway through another week in the city of Memphis, and the excitement levels for the weekend are as raucous as ever before.

Heading into Wednesday’s Pro-Am day, a few Golfers took to the Media stage and answered questions about the course, preparation for the Tournament, and even about LIV Golf. For lack of better words, Tuesday was a busy day for the PGA media folks who bring information to the Golf masses.

In particular, the talk on Tuesday shifted to Cameron Smith, who addressed a rumor that he had accepted an invitation to leave the PGA Tour to join the LIV Golf League.

When asked about the rumor in his FedEx St. Jude Championship press conference on Tuesday, Smith shot down the rumors by saying, ” My goal here is to win the FedExCup Playoffs. That’s all I’m here for. If there’s something I need to say regarding the PGA TOUR or LIV, it will come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy. I’m a man of my word, and whenever you guys need to know anything, it’ll be said by me.”

In a follow-up question from the media, Cameron Smith was asked once again about leaving the PGA and being a man of his word, and he answered with the same energy as before by saying, ” I have no comment to that. As I said, I’m here to play in the FedExCup Playoffs. That’s been my focus for the last week and a half. That’s what I’m here to do. I’m here to win the FedExCup Playoffs. And like I said, it will come from me; it won’t come from Cameron Percy.”

Elsewhere around the course at TPC Southwind on Tuesday, Tony Finau talked with the media and was asked about the Golf Course itself. Finau answered in his classic genuine ways by saying, ” Yeah, it’s a great golf course. Not the grass I prefer, Bermuda. Growing up in Utah, we don’t deal with Bermuda or bermudagrass, but it’s a golf course I have had some nice rounds on. I haven’t been able to put together four good rounds here, but we’re looking to change that this week.

But it’s a great golf course. Got to keep the ball in front of, you got to hit the fairway, you’re going to get some crazy lies out of the rough, so keeping the ball in the fairway’s at a premium, and it’s something that I’ve done a great job of over the last couple events and if I continue that, then I’ll play well this week.”

Overall, all the action for the fans in the city of Memphis, the first look they have at the pros will be tomorrow and will continue through the week, out at TPC Southwind. Tee times for Wednesday’s Pro-Am will start at 7:00a, with the last group going off at 2:00. Groups will be playing a nine-hole round, and the first round of the 2022 FedEx St. Jude will get underway on Thursday morning at 7:00a.
