Auburn too much for Mizzou, as they beat the Tigers 10-4 to advance to play Vanderbilt on Wednesday night

Deep into the night in Hoover, Alabama, the Auburn Tigers toom on the Missouri Tigers in the fourth and final game of the first round of the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament. In the first three games of the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament, we saw three shutouts with incredible pitching. Auburn and Missouri delivered with a broken streak of scoreless games. Missouri scored first, while Auburn waited until the bottom half of the third to get on the board with a three-run inning.

Leading up to the matchup on Tuesday night, Auburn and Missouri would be meeting for the 4th time in five days. Over the weekend, Missouri traveled to Plainsman Park on the campus of Auburn, where the hometown Auburn Tigers swept Missouri in three exciting games.

Missouri came into the SEC Tournament needing to win the Tournament to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012.

Auburn made the short drive to Hoover as one of the hottest teams in baseball. Auburn has won its last five Southeastern Conference series, including a winning streak of eight.

Not many people gave the Missouri Tigers a chance on Tuesday night, as they were the last team to make it to Hoover following being swept over the weekend at Auburn. However, that didn’t stop the Missouri Tigers from taking advantage of being the underdog on Tuesday night. Missouri put up a good fight, but the explosive Auburn 4th inning was too much for the Missouri Tigers to overcome as they close their season at the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama.

Missouri would jump ahead of Auburn in the top half of the second inning with a one-run inning after a sacrifice to left field, scored Hank Zeisler to make it 1-0 Missouri. Auburn would answer the Missouri one-run inning in the top half of the second with a three-run bottom half of the third to an Auburn lead of 3-1 into the 4th inning. Missouri would rally in the top half of the 4th inning with three runs to regain a 4-3 Missouri lead over Auburn. In the bottom half of the 6th inning, Auburn exploded out of nowhere for a four-run inning that would give the Tigers a 7-4 advantage over Missouri. Highlighting that inning was a massive three-run shot to deep right field to earn an Auburn 7-4 nod over Missouri heading to the top half of the 5th inning. Auburn would add the 8th run off a double from Bobby Peirce that would score Cade Foster. Bryson Ware would hammer a two-run home run to left center field to extend the Auburn lead to 10-4 over Missouri in the bottom half of the 8th inning.

With the win over Missouri on Tuesday night, Auburn will play Vanderbilt in the final game on Wednesday night. Given the matchups, Auburn and Vanderbilt will have a late night ahead at the Hoover Met as both go for the winner’s bracket on Thursday.
