Explosion of runs, as LSU destroys South Carolina 10-3 to open the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament

On a beautiful day for SEC Baseball in Hoover, Alabama, the LSU Tigers would play South Carolina in the early game of the second round of the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament. Coming into the game between the Gamecocks and Tigers, a lot of speculation boiled over about Wednesday being an instant classic between two powerful teams. However, LSU would string together ten runs in front of a near-sell-out LSU crowd to advance to the winner’s bracket of the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament., where they will await the winner of Arkansas and Texas A&M on Thursday.

In a yearly tradition, thousands of LSU Baseball fans fill the stands of the Hoover Met to give their beloved Tigers an Alex Box Stadium experience outside of Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge. Tuesday morning against the South Carolina Gamecocks was no different; LSU fans packed into the Hoover Met and cheered on the Tigers to a 10-3 win over South Carolina.

LSU started the barrage of runs in the second inning with a two-run inning behind a Brayden Jobert two-run homerun to deep right field. South Carolina would earn a run in the top half of the 5th inning with a solo shot from Ethan Petry to left field to cut into the LSU lead at 2-1. During the bottom half of the 5th inning, LSU rallied off a four-run inning to make it 6-1 Tigers heading to the 6th inning. South Carolina would add two runs to the scoreboard in the top half of the 6th inning, cutting into the LSU lead at 6-3. LSU would respond in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs to extend the lead to 8-3, heading to the top half of the 7th. South Carolina would remain scoreless through the remainder of the game. LSU would add two insurance runs in the bottom half of the 7th to give the Tigers the 10-3 advantage over South Carolina.

With the win over South Carolina, LSU will await the winner of Texas A&M and Arkansas on the Thursday afternoon winner’s bracket game. South Carolina will face the loser on Thursday morning in an elimination game.
