Opening the 2026 SEC Baseball Tournament on Tuesday morning would see the Ole Miss Rebels facing off against the Missouri Tigers in the first round, with a matchup with Mississippi State looming early Wednesday morning. Tuesday’s game meant two different things to both Ole Miss and Missouri: one is playing for the chance to host a home Regional, while the other is just trying to extend the season by a day, with the crazy hope of making a run and winning the whole tournament.
Coming into the 2026 Southeastern Conference Tournament, the Ole Miss Rebels were on the outside looking in when it came to hosting a Regional and would likely need a win or two in Hoover to be back in consideration for a host position.
On the side, you had the 16th-seed Missouri Tigers, who have no hope of reaching a Regional without winning the SEC Tournament this week.

Ole Miss would jump out early, jumping ahead 2-0 through two innings, with solo shots from Dom Decker and Austin Fawley. Missouri responded with a two-run third inning, capped off by Kam Durin’s two-run shot, to tie the game at 2. Missouri would then, in turn, take a seven-to-two lead in the top half of the 5th inning, capped off with a grand slam by Kaden Peer. Ole Miss responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom half of the 5th inning, cutting the Missouri lead to 7-6. Jase Woita would give Missouri another run with a solo shot to left field to extend the lead to 8-6 over the Rebels in the top half of the 6th inning. Hayden Federico would tie the game at eight in the bottom half of the 7th inning with a two-run shot to left field that scored Judd Utermark to make it 8-8. However, it would be the Missouri Tigers with the final laugh on Tuesday with two runs in the top half of the 8th inning to propel the Tigers to a 10-8 victory over Ole Miss.
Missouri had been showing signs of improvement over this season and came into the SEC Tournament with a win in this tournament since 2017; the win today will go a long way for a program looking to build for the future.
With the early exit in Hoover, Ole Miss will now likely be a two-seed in a Regional where they could stay in-state and travel to Pete Taylor Park to take on Southern Miss.
For Missouri, they will now advance to play Mississippi State on Wednesday morning with a first pitch slated for 9:30 a.m.
